very Kintail bagpipe is turned and finished by hand by the Sharp family and their small team of expert craftsmen in the Kintail workshops in the heart of Glasgow. Great care and experience is required when making a bagpipe if it is to stamped with the Kintail brand, only the finest quality African Blackwood and Ebony is selected then each set is pre bored and shaped then laid to settle in our moisture controlled wood stores for a minimum of three years before being hand turned into the finished bagpipe.

Kintail believe in their traditional "slow" hand made process of bagpipe making that allows the wood time to settle and mature at each stage of manufacture giving the bagpipe maker time to turn the wood into the finest quality instrument. The Sharp family remain skeptical of the now common approach of mass producing bagpipes on CNC lathes, some things cannot be rushed!
